In this work, three ruthenium(III) complexes ([Ru(bpy)2Cl2]Cl, [Ru(bpy)2(HR)2]Cl and
[Ru2TA]Cl6 were synthesized from 2,2’-bpy, resorcinolate (HR) and tannic acid. The synthesis
was checked using qualitative and quantitative halide test, electrolytic conductance
measurement, spectroscopic (FTIR and UV/Vis) and electrochemical (CV) techniques. The band
gaps of these complexes were determined using Tauc plot equation to investigate their
application in dye solar sensitized solar cell (DSSC). All the synthesized complexes showed light
absorption in the visible region, and more importantly panchromatic absorption is visible in
[Ru2TA]Cl6 complex. This absorption behavior (panchromatic absorption) of [Ru2TA]Cl6
complex may enhance the efficiency of the DSSC device. Multimeter was used to check the dye
sensitization of the three complexes and [Ru(bpy)2(HR)2]Cl and [Ru2TA]Cl6 were found working.
Additionally, the three complexes' electrocatalytic properties were also examined, and the CV
and EIS techniques demonstrated that these complexes can be used in electrochemical processes. |
