The thesis was written based on a critical analysis of secondary sources and oral information gathered from knowledgeable people. The thesis focuses on the family background and the life time of General Hälyé Mäläsä. In this connection, an attempt was made to interrogate the information that the researcher collected from informants. In the course of reconstructing the biography of General Häylé Mäläsä, the researcher came to realize that his role as soldier, army leader and administrator in different parts of Ethiopia, was significant to such an extent that both the people and the government of Ethiopia gave recognition. The people recognized his leadership role by award and gifts to him as administrator in their province and the government recognized his role by promoting him to higher political and military titles and by awarding him different medals. He also received the attention of the Därg government after he served as an able commander of a militia brigade that fought heroically against the Somali invaders in 1977/78. Following the expulsion of the Somali invasion, he was made to serve the government as administrator in many places. In this connection, General Häylé Mäläsä, played significant roles in the national unity of Ethiopia. |
