dc.description.abstract Textile produce large volumes of sludge as a result of industrial activity, and its disposal is a serious environmental concern because it includes toxic levels of contaminants, including heavy metals. Due to its huge volume and mass, sludge management is seen as an additional burden to the industry. The purpose of this study is to characterize solid sludge from the textile industry. By using appropriate analytical techniques, the pH, organic matter (OM), nutrient elements (N, P, K), and metal content of the sludge were determined. The experiment was carried out using a Factorial combination and a Complete Randomized Design (CRD). Treatment consisted of 4×3 factorial combinations of NP (full recommended (100kg N &50kg P, half recommended (50kg N&25kg P and control and Dried sludge of (0,5,10 and 20 ton/hr). The concentration levels of Cu, Cr, Fe, Cd, Pb and Zn in the textile industry sludge are 511.568, 251.166, 7991.667, ND, 67.333. and 463.00 respectively. The concentration levels of Cu, Cr, Fe, and Zn exceeded the recommended upper limit for agricultural soil. nonetheless, cadmium and lead are below WHO standards. Physicochemical of soil pH, %TN, %TOC, and %OM, are paraments improved after sludge application. And 7.4 to 7.0, 0.109 to 0.123,0.381 to 1.245, 0.657 to 2.147 respectively. Application of textile sludge to soil considerably raised the Cr, Fe, and Cu contents in the pot soils comparing with the control pot. The growth of lettuce is increased from 75 g/pot in to 143.5 g/pot after application of 20 ton per hectare. Due to this textile sludge is an alternative to be used as organic fertilizer or soil conditioner. If metals especially Fe and Cr are reduced by proper treatment strategies. en_US
