dc.description.abstract Background: Acute poisoning is a common reason for emergency department visit and hospitalization worldwide with major morbidity and mortality. WHO reports poisoning is a significant global public health problem which leads to nearly 0.3 million deaths each year. Epidemiological Data on this important health issues are scarce in Ethiopia. Data on acute poisoning vary considerably across the world and depend on socioeconomic status and cultural practices. Household chemical agents and prescribed drugs are the most common poisoning agents in the developed world, whereas agro chemicals are the most common poisoning agents in developing countries Prevalence, magnitude of acute poisoning and deaths increase alarmingly. This is because of tremendous advances in the fields of agriculture, industrial technology and medical pharmacy. en_US
