dc.description.abstract In today world’s stiff market competition race, companies should strive to improve their productivity in order to ensure their attractiveness over their competitors. Material productivity is among those productivity determinants and the key performance indicator of company’s overall productivity. The case company is one of footwear Products Company in Ethiopia. This company has encountered lower material productivity level because of different factors. Hence in order to improve this problem, this study had found relevant to see the entire process using method study tool and different literatures were reviewed concerned on method study and work-study. The main objective of this study was to improve the material productivity by using method study. Based on this, the other footwear industries could further use that improved material utilization method to insure overall productivity of their company. Data was collected through direct observation using checklists, photo and video, as well as relevant company documentations and other related documents were examined. Based on this, the existing conditions of the process were analyzed through the present work flow or method study. The improved process flow was prepared based on the proposed improvement opportunities so that; material utilization improvement from 4.1 ft.sq to 3.6 ft.sq has been achieved, which is an equivalent increament of 12% productivity on average single piece leather material. The contribution of the study is to utilize leather material by improving the method of cutting. en_US
