dc.description.abstract Activated carbon (AC) is one of the important bio waste used in waste treatment for different applications. Recently demand for activated carbon is increasing due to the increased utility of the carbon materials in pollution control. Therefore, this study was carried out to synthesis Activated carbon from Flamboyant pods for the removal of methylene blue (MB) by using the H3PO4 activation method. The pod of Flamboyant Podwas collected from Bahir Dar University Peda Campus. Characterizations using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), and X ray Diffraction(XRD) were conducted.AC was synthesized from flamboyant pods by impregnation with phosphoric acid. The adsorption of Methylene Blue (MB) from aqueous solution onto syntheses Activated Carbon (SAC) was investigated under various experimental conditions. The batch adsorption studies of MB on ACs were carried out at optimum conditions by H3PO4 activations. The adsorption parameters such as adsorbent dosage (0.05-0.5g), solution pH (4-9), contact time (5-30min), and initial MB dye concentration (25– 200 mg/L) were studied. The optimum conditions of adsorption were found to be: contact time of 15 min, adsorbent dose of 0.2 g, pH of 4 and dye concentration 25mg/L at removal efficiencies (%) were found to be 95.11, 95.11, 98.06 and 99.An increase in the adsorbent dose generally increases the MB removal due to the increase surface area of the adsorbent. It was concluded that, flamboyant pods AC is an efficient adsorbent for the removal of MB from synthetic waste water and hence could generally be used in the treatment of wastewater for color removal.
