dc.description.abstract An adoption of modern fertilizer is a crucial decision to enhance the agricultural productivity in sustainable manner to make the local community in food reliance. The imbalance between the population growth rate and the agricultural production growth rate is one of the prominent problems for enhancing availability of food in Ethiopia particularly in the study area. To meet the growing population's food needs, agricultural production must be increased. This could be realized among others through utilizing modern fertilizers. This study aimed to identify factors for resistance of farmers in adopting modern fertilizer among households in Quara woreda, North West Ethiopia. A cross sectional study design was conducted on 197 farmers, which were randomly selected from 5 sample kebeles. The response variable for current investigation was adoption of modern fertilizer, which had two possible outcomes (adopting or non-adopting). Hence, Binary logistic regression model was used for current investigation for data analysis. Among the predictors, sex of households, age group of households, level of education, fertilizer cost, perception of households on the support of agricultural offices, farm area and distance of fertilizer distribution center from household’s residence area were significantly associated with farmers’ resistance on the adoption of modern fertilizer. Therefore, a concerted effort is needed to encourage fertilizer adoption and optimum fertilizer use intensity by improving households’ resource endowment, institutional capacity to deliver quality services, and infrastructure development.
