dc.description.abstract Conflict is defined as disagreement between two or more members of the organization or groups arising from the fact that they must share scarce resources or work activities. The purpose of this study was to identify the major causes of conflict, frequently used management techniques and positive impacts of conflict between teachers and principals at Dangila woreda and Dangila Town Administration Secondary Schools. To attain this objective, a survey design with both quantitative and qualitative approaches was employed. Questionnaires and interview were the instruments used for data collection from 120 respondents. The data were analyzed using statistical tools frequency, percentage (%), mean and standard deviation. Based on its mean value, failure to accomplish responsibility well was mostly the cause of conflict between teachers and principals followed by poor communication; and absence of clear rules and regulations for the school, respectively. The result of the study also indicated that schools use compromising most frequently to solve conflicts followed by accommodating, collaborating, dominating and avoiding, respectively. In relation to positive effects of conflict, the mean value indicated that conflict servers as a safety value to indicate problems was the most positive effect of conflict followed by motivates change, promotes organizational vitality, stimulates creativity, helps individual & groups to establish identities and leads to new ideas or approaches, respectively. Therefore, it is possible to conclude that the problem was serious enough to raise conflict in secondary schools and also hinders from achieving objectives in the system. To solve conflicts in school, using management techniques are mandatory and also properly handle is goes to positive effect. Hence, it is recommended that school principals and teachers should have the necessary knowledge, and basic conflict management skills with sufficient experience, in order to prevent causes conflict before and after the occurrence of conflict within the school. The woreda education office must support these schools to equip with financial and moral by and with knowledge by giving effective trainings timely. en_US
