Abstract:
Lake Hashenge is an enclosed Lake which is facing for many natural and anthropogenic activities. This study was aimed at evaluation of the current spatial and temporal variation of the selected physico-chemical parameters and the eutrophication status of the Lake water. The spatial and temporal variations in water quality parameters of Lake Hashenge were determined using Two-way ANOVA technique at 95% confidence level. CCME_WQI were applied for the overall judgment of the water quality of the Lake. Arc-GIS software also applied to map the spatial and temporal water quality distribution of the Lake water. A total of 13 parameters from 16 sampling points were taken for analysis during march, May, June, July and August of 2011EC. The water quality parameters used for analysis of the Lake water quality in the present study were temperature, pH, turbidity, TSS, EC, TDS, salinity, DO, PO4, NO3, NH3, Chl_a and STD. The spatio-temporal variation result shows more of temporal variation than its spatial variation. The water quality status of Lake Hashenge categorized as marginal and poor which were determined by applying the CCME-WQI method. The trophic status of Lake Hashenge were determined using the Carlson’s trophic state index (TSI) methodandwerefoundaseutrophicstateforallsampledmonths. Apositivecorrelation between turbidity and TSS, EC with TDS and salinity, PO4 and Chl_a were observed while negative correlation has been observed between STD with turbidity, TSS, PO4 and Ch_a.
