Construction site layout planning is fundamental for successful project undertaking as it enhances both productivity and safety in construction sites.A good site layout can minimize the travel time between temporary facilities, improve workers safety, increase workers productivity, decrease construction cost and time.The main objective of this research is to investigating the current practice of site layout planning by assesing the specifc objectives of, general trend, effects and causes of site layout planning in Bahir Dar city public building constructions. To achieve the main objective and specific objectives, questionnaire, observationand case studywere used.The response from the contructor and consultant indicates there have knowledge about the effect of site layout planning on the construction cost, time and safety, the problem is desining site layout planning and showing on the ground. The responses were analyzed by ranking the factors in terms of the degree of effect.Thetop ranked factors affecting poor site layout planning are delay inconstruction delivery, increases cost of construction and poor communication among workers.Thecause are attributed to poor temporary work design, staff too inexperienced to coordinate site work and coordinate technical administration work.
