The purpose of connecting rod is to provide fluid movement between piston and crank shaft. The thesis deals with Fatigue Analysis and Life Prediction of Connecting Rod in Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) for Toyota with in commercial software ANSYS. Introduction, literature review, meth ology, design and analysis of connecting rod, finite element solution for aluminum alloy 7068T6 and carbon steel C40 connecting rod are presented. Problem of the research carbon steel C40 material connecting rod are used in automobile internal combustion engine ,but carbon steel C40 connecting rod having more weight and low stiffness as compare to aluminum alloy 7068T6 composite connecting rod. Design and analysis of connecting rod gas load and fatigue life are presented. The meth ology is to show fatigue analysis, physical modeling, fracture mechanic analysis (crack) stress, and deformation of connecting rod. The result obtained the fatigue life prediction of aluminum alloy 7068T6 and carbon steel C40 materials 1.80441482x107cycles and 1.33854857x106 cycles respectively. The weight of the optimized connecting rod is 69.728499N. It is reduced by 63.4615% of weight. Due to the stress analysis of the materials are the equivalent (von-miss stress) stress values of aluminum alloy7068T6 is 49.159MPa and carbon steelC40 is 46.176MPa maximum values gain. Applications of Connecting rods are widely used in vehicles that are powered by internal combustion engines. All cars and trucks that use this type of engine employ the use of connecting rods.
