dc.description.abstract This work comprises of design, construction and experimental investigation on a waste heat recovery system in Bahir Dar Institute of Technology from a wood stove which is used in student‟s cafeteria. The produced steam is used for cooking purpose. As there is a need for Energy Conservation in this process, this present work was carried out. The aim is to reduce the fuel consumption of the steam boiler. It is the first of its kind to the locality and to improve the Energy conservation. Increasing the temperature of the feed water by 250C, through waste heat recovery is the outcome of the thesis. This waste heat recovery system is a combination of three concentric helical coils and parallel copper tubes, having a total length of 60 m copper tube with 8mm external diameter and 6.78mm internal diameter. During the experiment it was found that 89.70C outlet temperature of circulating water from 250C of inlet temperature with volume flow rate.0.1 LPS was observed. This waste heat recovery system saves 16 liter of Diesel fuel from steam boiler and 18 kilogram wood from wood firing stoves per day. From this fuel saving, 297.96 kilogram emission of flue gas is reduced and from this amount of emission reduction of carbon dioxide is 71.94 kilogram. In addition to this the flue gas temperature from the wood firing stoves reduced by 2000C. The waste heat recovery system saves 269.5 Ethiopian Birr per day. en_US
