Abstract:
Manual method of seed and fertilizer seeding, results in low seed and fertilizer placement, loss of spacing efficiencies and serious back ache for the farmer which limits the size of field that can be planted. The cost price of imported planters has gone beyond the purchasing power of most of our farmers. Farmers can do much to increase food production especially grains. This research work focused on fabrication of animally operated single line maize and fertilizer seeder that is cheap, easily affordable by the rural farmers, easy to maintain and single person to use. The seeder has the capability of delivering the seeds and fertilizer precisely with uniform depth in the furrow and with uniform spacing between the seeds and fertilizers are expected. The single raw animally operated maize and fertilizer seeder is simple to use, and it has easy preventive and corrective maintenance, including for the bearings which needs to be lubricated from time to time to allow the seeder's ground wheel to move freely and checking the lock spring metering disc.
