Abstract:
It has been shown that a nano fluid consisting of nano particles dispersed in base fluid has
much higher effective coefficient of heat transfer than pure fluid. The heat transfer
characteristic of fluids is tremendously improved by suspending a nano sized solid
particles with diameter below 100nm. And are considered as prospective working fluids
for the application, such as solar collector, heat pump, nuclear reactor, electronic cooling
system, automobile radiator etc.
In the present investigation, pool boiling heat transfer behavior of kerosene and naphtha
soot nano particle suspensions in condensed water has been carried out. Two different
concentrations of 0.5% and 0.75% by volume of soot of kerosene and naphtha nano
particle in base fluid were prepared and boiling experiments have been conducted over
coil heater with 4mm thickness of borosilicate vessel. The experiment result shows that the
addition of soot of kerosene and naphtha nanoparticle increases the boiling heat transfer coefficient of base fluid. The enhancement of heat transfer coefficient at 1.2 kw/m2was found to be 17.63 percent and 7.53 percent and at 958.95 kw/m2is 13.89 percent and
11.04 percent corresponding to 0.5% and 0.75% concentration of soot of kerosene nano particle by volume in water. And 15.94 percent and 4.712 percent at 1.2kw/m2 and 13.50 percent9.74 percent at 958.95 kw/m2for 0.5% and 0.75% by volume in water for soot of
naphtha respectively. It was also observed that the enhancement was higher for lower
heat flux, and lower for higher heat fluxes.
