dc.description.abstract Natural fibred Polymer Composites are in more demand for the engineering industries because of high strength to weight ratio and also abundance in availability in different countries of the world. Hence these natural fibres are in variety and having various characteristics. In this work sisal fibre has been chosen to make as a composite with polyester resin. Fibres are added in the polymer matrix in order to improve the efficiency of the polymer for certain mechanical properties. It is important to synthesis and study compressive strength of sisal fibre in composite as a reinforced material in the polymer matrix because polymer composites are good in tensile behaviour due to reinforcement but the visco elastic behaviour of polymers may lead to the failure due to certain loading conditions like compressive. Therefore, it is indispensable to study the compressive strength of the material before processing the material for applications. In this study the compressive strength of the sisal fibred polyester composite is being made and analyzed using analytical approach, simulation approach and an experimental approach under varying fibre content and fibre angle orientation. A hand lay-up method is adopted in fabricating this model and then treated by sodium hydroxide for further lining and other fibre leaves are removed in order to improve the bonding strength & interfacial shear strength of the sisal fibre with the matrix during compressive loading conditions. Specimens are prepared and tested according to the standards of ASTM D3410. Seven samples with the fibre to matrix weight fraction of 20/80, 30/70 and 40/60 are selected with a random orientation angle arrangement of fibre. To analyze the compressive strength of the composite it is decided to make the analytical evaluation through Classical Lamination theory and Simulation Analysis using the software ANSYS. Also the theoretical values will be evaluated with the experimental data. The maximum ultimate compressive strength, breaking force, failure strain and deflection were 60.5Mpa, 20.17kN, 7.2% and 3.25% in compression found at [00,450,450]3, [450,900,900]3, [450,900,900]3 and 30/70UTR respectively. Comparison of maximum ultimate compressive strength between the current work to previous work were 57.18MPa and 54.55MPa at 20%F+80%P respectively, 56.635MPa and 63.35MPa at 30%F+70%P respectively. en_US
