Waste is considered to be one of the most important bases of sustainability in recycled way. Almost all the products, whether they are metal, concrete, plastic, wood, or even others, will eventually turn into wastes that must be disposed. The best way to deal with these wastes is to recycle and reuse them as raw materials or modifiers. This thesis compares neat asphalt binder and asphalt binder containing waste plastic using experimental evaluation including Marshall Flow and stability with corresponding volumetric properties. Including the control specimen fifteen binders were obtained by mixing the asphalt binder with five different percentages of waste plastic by weight of asphalt binder (6%, 9%, 12% and 15%). It also compares the waste plastic mix properties with the local and international specifications. Cleaned and small, waste plastic resulted from plastic had been added to the asphalt mixture using a gradation of (2-5) mm. Marshall Method was used to determine the Optimum Binder Content (OBC) and to evaluate the properties of the waste plastic mix. In total, 90 samples were prepared, 15 of which have been used to determine the OBC, and the rest have been used to find out the effects of adding different percentages of waste plastics to the asphalt mixture. Examining Marshall Samples showed that the OBC of bitumen ought to be 4.8% of the total weight of the asphalt mix. Also, investigating Marshall Samples containing different percentages of waste plastic showed that the optimum percentage of waste plastic that can be used in the wearing course is 12% of the weight of the optimum binder content. This percentage is alternated only to the size of (2-5) mm in the asphalt mix. The results of the experiments (Marshall Stability, flow, specific gravity & air voids) are consistent to the local and international specifications. This research recommends doing more studies on the use of waste plastic in the asphalt mixes using different percentages and different sources of waste plastics. It also recommends combining waste plastic with other materials such as glass and iron filings and then finding out their effects on the asphalt mixes properties. The thesis concludes that partial replacement of waste plastic improves the Marshall Stability and flow of binders at high temperature ranges and has a little effect on the HMA mixture Overall, the study indicates that, it is feasible to partially replace asphalt binder with waste plastic up to 12% of OBC by weight.
