dc.description.abstract Unsignalized intersection is implemented to regulate low volume of traffic flow. The study will investigate some of the intersections in Gondar city which will be evaluated for the analysis due to receiving an appropriate number of vehicles and various types of vehicles to represent the mixed traffic flow characteristics. The objective of this study is to evaluate the capacity and traffic performance of selected intersections in Gondar city. The characteristics of Gondar city roads are high density, mixed land use, short trip distances, and high share of walking and non–motorized transport. The necessary traffic volume data were collected by video recorded tap and geometric data (average entry width, circulatory road width, number of entry and circulatory lanes, and island diameter) were collected from direct field meaurment of selected intersections and SIDRA software were used for analysis and evaluation of the performance of intersections. The relation between an intersections performance measure and capacity is often expressed in terms of degree of saturation (v/c), delay, queue length and average speed From selected intersection Piazza roundabout has a Level of service Value of “E” and other intersections has a level of service value of “F”. Those intersections also have high value of degree of saturation, delay and queue length. Also the travel speed for those intersection is less than 30% of the base free-flow speed. In general study intersection in the city are characterized by unstable operation and significant delay. Congestion is likely occurring at the boundary intersection, as indicated by high delay and extensive queuing. High volume of pedestrians and Bajaj traffics are the main causes for these poor performance. In addition, lack of proper cross walk, illegal parking system and street trading are the reasons for the intersection to have poor level of service. The study concludes that provision of public transport in line with proper crossing and sign marks, installing an overpass at Maraki University intersection from 18 approach, restriction of bajaj transport at Piazza roundabout and restriction of illegal parking and street trading are the remedial measures recommended for the intersection to have high level of performance. en_US
