dc.description.abstract This study was carried out to evaluate the concentration of selected elements in raw coffee samples collected from six wored as of eastern Amhara region. The concentration of six elements (Ba, Si, Na, Co, Ni and Co) were determined in coffee sample by ICP-OES after digesting exactly 0.5 gm of coffee sample with 5 mL of HNO3 and 5 mL of HClO4 mixture for 2.30 hr. at 120oC. Among the determinate elements, Na (157-241mg/kg) was found to be the highest Si (68-105mg/kg), Ni (1116mg/kg) and Cu (9-11mg/kg), Co (0.5-0.8 mg/kg) respectively, while concentration of barium was below detection limit. The accuracy of the procedure was evaluated by analysing spiked samples and the percent recoveries of the element were found to be in good range and the percent standard deviation used for precision of the work. The values obtained in this study are comparable with the corresponding value of different countries available in the literature.
