| dc.description.abstract | The increase in the mortality rate linked with infectious diseases is directly related to bacteria that demonstrate multiple resistances to antibiotics. The shortage of effective treatments is the major cause of this problem. The development of new antibacterial agents with novel and more efficient mechanisms of action is an alarming medical need. Based on this, in this work, two new cobalt (II) complexes with formula of typical protic acid,H2[Co(R)2]and H2[Co(Bipy)(R)2] (Where R= Resorcinide, Bipy=2,2’-bipyridine,) were synthesized. The synthesis was checked using halide test, and spectroscopic (ICP-OES, FT-IR, UV/Vis, 1HNMR, and ESI-MS) analysis. Square planar and octahedral geometries were proposed, respectively. The complexes were also tested for their in vitro anti bacterial activity against two Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus pyogenes and two Gram negative Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumonia bacterial strains. The results were compared with the commercially available antibacterial agents (gentamicine).The antibacterial activities of the complexes were found to be active against all the tested bacterial strain and demonstrated wide spectrum and better inhibiting activity even on Gram negative bacteria (E.Coil and K.pnuemonia). Thus, after citotoxicity investigations, these complexes could be considered as alternative drugs.
